#FreebieFriday with Tonlé...

My dear Green Bees, something that I've truly come to love about my #FreebieFriday giveaways is that they make it possible for those of y'all who are considering making sustainable lifestyle changes to do it without any real cost to yourselves.  During the years that I was in college and immediately after, what I'll call the "Green Movement" was in its infant stages and there were only a couple of brands making organic clothing or working as fair trade operations and they were pretty pricey (at least for my collegiate and post-collegiate budget).  These days, when I discuss sustainable living with others, I'm often told that people think that it is an expensive lifestyle.  While yes, sometimes it can be, there is a reason:  

Slow fashion costs more because it does more.  Especially when it is done in a fair trade setting.  

But here's the thing:  You can have peace of mind that your clothing came from a place in which people both live and work in humane conditions.  You can be fully assured that the garments in your closet haven't harmed anyone, and in many cases, have even helped their makers attain things like health care and education for themselves and for their families.  

I know that sometimes price tags can be scary (they are scary for me too), but I also think that it's important to really look at where things come from before making the decision to spend money.  If I can spend $100 on something that was made safely and in a way that helps the planet and with quality that will last for years instead of spending $20 on something made in a sweatshop that i'll probably get bored with after I've worn it twice, I think the decision is easy.  

And if you need any convincing, I'd like to make it a bit easier for you!  This week, I've teamed up with Tonlé Design, one of my favourite fair trade clothing companies to give one lucky winner a $100 gift card to spend in their shop!  Tonlé is one of my favorites because not only are they fair trade, they are zero waste.  They collect fabric remnants from the mass merchandisers and turn them into handmade pieces that save tons and tons of fabrics from heading to landfills.  Something else that I absolutely love about them is that every garment is hand-signed by the person who made it, and I can hop onto their website at any time to see a photo of the person who made each garment!  How's that for peace of mind?
