A quiet village…

Monday, June 23, 2014

As lovely as it is to live in a quiet village (every day, like the one before… little town, full of little people.. ok… enough Beauty and the Beast), I am most definitely a city gal.  Horns honking, people yelling, sirens wailing… yes, tout le monde, that is my white noise.  Except instead of putting me to sleep, it wakes up a part of my soul that only really gets a chance to be alive when I'm in the city.

New York.  Chicago. Paris.  While, yes, they can get overwhelming after a while, these are the places that tend to give me just the jolt I need.  You can only imagine how excited I was a few weeks ago when a friend asked me to accompany her to Frankfurt (the closest large city to where we live out our humble lives) and I found that Frankfurt has got to be the quietest city EVER.  I thought that perhaps it was a fluke, so when Soldier Boy and I popped into the city for one of our Starpotle (Starbucks/Chipotle) runs and a quick museum visit yesterday, I thought, "Oh boy, a chance to fill up on our favourite American foods AND find out if Frankfurt really is super quiet or not.

The results of my little test… drumroll, please…

FRANKFURT HAS GOT TO BE THE QUIETEST CITY ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET.

It's true.  We walked along the river, the banks of which were simply crammed with people picnicking and taking in copious quantities of vitamin D… silently.  They had alcohol open and everything!

WHY IS THIS CITY SO QUIET?

… seriously… it freaks me out… though it was lovely to get a change of scenery… and another frappuccino!

  3. Very cute outfit, seems perfect for a summer stroll (though living in germany myself: was the weather good again and I missed it?)
One of my close friends lives in Frankfurt but I never thought about it being a quiet city. Now that you say it I do think compared to Hamburg or Berlin the riverbanks are perphaps not as lively ^^"

    1. I even think that Berlin is quiet, but I was only there in the winter and it was very cold. Not too many people out! I'll have to go back this summer and find out if it is any louder!

  4. I have family in Frankfurt and I agree...super quiet place. Berlin on the other hand...Couldn't get enough. If you haven't already been get yourself on the next train!!!! If you want something different hop on the next train to Warsaw... this is a city I guarantee you'll love (hint. they are somewhat obsessed with Paris).

    1. I didn't even think that Berlin was that noisy! I was expecting it to be, but was surprised at the calm there as well! I DO need to get to Warsaw! It's on the list!

  5. I also love the hustle and bustle of a city! San Diego is really calm so I try to get a little of the city feel by going to Downtown but it still so chill compared to other cities. Paris was the perfect city, it was noisy and busy but not ridiculous like Mexico City. I haven't been to Frankfurt but another city that was pretty quiet in my opinion was Copenhagen.

    1. I thought that I'd like being out of the city, so when I went to college, I went to school in the middle of nowhere and couldn't stand it! I was back in the city in one semester! I suppose the international travel over here is the only thing keeping me sane in my quiet village!

  10. Photos came out wonderful! I don't think I could ever reside in a quiet city, it would drive me nuts so I feel you on needing that white noise. Hopefully you get to trek to city full of white noise to get your fill :)

  12. I grew up in a HUGE metropolitan city full of noise and life and I agree that most of the time it feeds my soul too. :) Now I live in another country in a much calmer city that I also adore (which is perfect for raising a family) but whenever I visit back I feel so alive again. Totally relate! LOVE your outfit- such a pretty top and sandals. XOXO, Elif

  13. Such a cute outfit! So boho and easy. I adore your sandals... I wasn't a huge fan of the high gladiator trend before, but I think I've slowly come to like them more and more! I can't imagine not having a Starbucks or a Chipotle nearby!! (City life for me all the way!!)

    1. Thank you! You know, like I said a few weeks ago, I didn't realize that I was hooked on Starbucks until I didn't have one any more! Absence makes the heart grow fonder?
