An American Prayer...

Monday, August 21, 2017

"People are strange... when you're a stranger..." Ahhh, the sounds of my childhood.  Yep.  The Doors. Some of my favourite childhood memories are times when my dad and I drove around in his Jeep, hunting down Beanie Babies or looking for fun tropical fish for our fishtank while jamming to The Doors (on cassette tape, of course).

This memory connects me to the time I was with friends in Paris, exploring Pere Lachaise and trying to find the most direct route to Jim Morrison's grave.

All of these memories have lead me back to a poem, "An American Prayer," that Jim Morrison wrote in 1978 that seems rather apropos for the world that we're living in today.  I'm not huge on politics, but I know negativity when I see it.  That being said, today, I'll just leave you with a link (click ^ up there) in case you'd like to listen to the whole poem a piece of the poem that I think is rather appropriate for these times:

"The fathers are cackling in trees of the forests
Our mother is dead in the sea
Do you know we are being lead to
slaughter by placid generals
and that fat, slow generals are getting
obscene on young blood?
Do you know we are ruled by T.V.?
The moon is a dry blood feast
Guerrilla bands are rolling numbers
in the next block of green vine
amassing for warfare on innocent
herdsmen who are are just dying..."
