#SustainableSunday with Laadi Designs...

Sunday, March 4, 2018

Happy #SustainableSunday from insanely windy Las Vegas!  Holy macaroni, I swear that if we were a coastal city, there would be tsunamis going on over here!  Despite the insane wind, I got to trek a tiny bit out into the desert to photograph these insanely unique sandals from Laadi Designs.  Laadi is a fair trade brand that creates sandals like these, along with some really amazing bags in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Everything is created using traditional methods by weavers who have over 30 years or experience.   The artisans like to use bold styling and while I opted for black and white, they love to incorporate bold colours into their designs.  Because everything is handmade in a family-owned workshop, it's easy to feel just as good wearing these sandals as it does to carry one of their beautiful handbags

I'm always on the lookout for handmade pieces that will ignite conversation.  "Why?" you ask.  Because I am proud to support responsible companies and getting people to comment on the unique pieces I've managed to curate is the first step towards making a more global shift towards sustainability!  Also, $1 from each pair sold is donated to a non-profit called She's the First.  This charity provides scholarships to girls in low-income countries to go to school.  As a full-time teacher by day, this is a cause after my own heart!

What's sustainable about this outfit?

: the top was thrifted
: the ring was handmade
: the sandals were handmade and are fair trade
