Co… co… Coachella, baby! I can't remember which blog I read this on, but one of my blogger pals wrote a piece about Coachella and music festivals in general, and I want to expand upon a few of her key points.
The festivals these days seem to be all about the fashion. And possibly drugs, now that marijuana is legal in more places, and this is just a vibe I've picked up on via the internetz. Side bar, I saw a meme the other day that said "Namaste means 'my soul recognizes your soul' not 'I dropped acid at an EDM show and now I'm full of worldly wisdom'" and it made me giggle.
Back to my point… It seems like tests aren't so much about the tune-age (see hipsters absolutely gush over the musical talents of bands that Jimmy Kimmel made up simply to punk them). They are about spending a ton of money, getting dressed in crazy outfits, and getting so blitzed that the only things you remember are loosely pieced together by a series of selfies and Instagram feeds.
Amiright? Also, please note that in researching for this post, I discovered that "selfie sticks" have been banned from Coachella, so all of you festies out there are going to be stuck using your arms and hitting up strangers.
I've not actually been to a big, dress-like-a-hippie-and-camp-out fest (though I have made one trip to Summerfest in Milwaukee… woot… and yes, I am admitting that though I am from Chicago, I've never been to Lollapalooza), so I can't say if I think the whole experience would be worth it to me, but I will say that I love the fashion. No matter how weird it gets, I love it. I think that the majority of my : outfit envy Pinterest board is comprised of Coachella fashion photos. That being said, I wanted to come up with a few festival looks that if I were going to Coachella, I'd totally love to rock! These shorts from Haute Rogue are epic. I love the pattern and colours and as an extreme bonus, they have pockets! Also, how on point is my dad for sending me these hand painted leather butterfly wing earrings? I might just be obsessed. Coolest things ever!
Must also add… photos aren't the best, but I was asked to try out Brow Glitter from Billion Dollar Brows. At first, I thought… "Brow glitter? Do I need that? What is the purpose of this?" However, it turns out that it's pretty fun. It goes on with a tiny brush and can also be used as a liquid liner! It comes in silver and pink and I simply cannot think of a better time to give this trend a go than for fests!
… side bar number who-knows-I-lost-track, pardon my goosebumps in these snaps. I shot these in the midst of our hurricane warning yesterday. It was freezing, windy, and raining sideways. Yay, covered patios!
Ermagherd, that hipster video is the best. So silly. And also, nice job on the earrings, Dad.
