Dreams. Our subconscious at work. They supposedly have all sorts of meanings, and if this is true, I need some serious help unraveling the doozy I had last night. Here goes:
I dreamt that I was wandering around my old high school, pregnant, and in need of a hair cut. I managed to find my French teacher, who offered to cut my hair AND give me some colored extensions. I asked him to cut off half an inch, redo my layers, and give me pink, purple, and black colored extensions.
The next thing I know, I'm carrying a baby around the school and am apparently, a student. The warning bell has rung and I'm freaking out because I don't know which class I'm supposed to be in and I haven't managed to name the baby yet. I told someone that I wanted to incorporate some derivative of "Barbara" into the baby's name (side note: Barbara is the name of a cousin who passed away from lung cancer several months ago in real life).
Apparently, I'd sat through several classes and made my way into the restroom where I got my first look at my hair cut. My teacher had cut 8 inches off instead of the 1/2 inch I'd requested and the highlights were bleeding so that I had some giant pink, purple, and black stripes on one side of my head (it actually looked pretty good). I had an absolute fit about my long hair having been cut off, was peeved that the baby was weeks old and I still hadn't managed to name her, and I couldn't figure out why I was in high school.
The last bit of the dream that I remember was seeing myself in the main office yelling, "Why am I in high school again? I have a flipping master's degree!"
… What in the name of Benjamin Button does all of this mean? Please, help me unravel this…

Thank you! Tan? Haha… you're inflating my ego!
DeleteHigh school dreams are the worst when you've long graduated! It's been a decade and I still have nightmare about science tests. Hehehe. The main thing I took away from your dream is you'd probably look super Bad-A in real life with purple, pink, and black hair on one side. As for this outfit, I'm obsessed with your sunnies and that minty lace dress!!

Argh! I don't know if it's because my 10-year high school reunion is coming up soon or what! I woke up super frustrated, though!

Landscapes and figures -- so many theaters and agents of consciousness and the subconscious mind. I tend to prefer the general approach of Carl Jung's active dream interpretation that each of these figures and landscapes are symbols of the experiences we've had with them -- but not always in the rational manner one would have in waking (such as time distortions, people appearing as other people, senses altered or distorted, etc); the associations that these elements have for us in personal experience seem to act as raw material with which we may create (the mind) during sleep. More to the point, that there's possibly no central meanings to each -- perhaps instead it's a playful juggling some part of us has when given a palette of events and people.
ReplyDeleteNew life given forth from your being (yet still unnamed); even so, the name of a family member who's made the transition comes in as part of the formula of the name to come -- you know that (in the dream) and communicate the same; seems to indicate a communication of the inner life acknowledging continuity amidst seasons of change, a passage from the garments shed for garments newly woven; the school -- an old ground of learning which you long past yet remain within; a teacher of French (one you've had? or made up?) acting as the agent of change -- chromatic transformations, layers of growth (which you treasure) which changed in ways not expected... yet come off as surprisingly pleasing? Being caught up in the paper-shuffling 'office' but still asserting the judgement of absurdity -- an act of appropriate protest seeing how, rationally speaking, you attained a degree of mastery.
Like poetry, it may be that these elements are words that use a normative meaning in a non-conventional manner. Maybe that playful subconscious attempts to express its life thereby... or maybe it's just the brains way of defragging! Either way, it's a beautiful experience.
Thank you for such an in-depth response. Still not totally sure what my dream was attempting to tell me, but I think you've helped to unravel quite a bit of it.
DeleteLol no clue on the dream, but the dress is super cute. :) I have definitely had the high school flashback nightmares, though, where I'm rushing to class but have no clue where I'm supposed to be because I've been away from school for close to a decade. What gives?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adore this outfit, you look amazing!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Very weird dream! I go through phases of having dreams - last week I had 3 or 4 weird dreams in a row. I'd love to know what they all mean. That dress is really gorgeous - love the colour! xxx
