Several days ago, I had a co-worker approach me at work to tell me that she really liked the way I wear my clothes. At first, I thought that this was a wee bit odd, but she went on to explain that the way she sees it, I wear a lot of clothes that are similar to what everyone else wears (you know... those outfits we all steal from Pinterest), but I wear these clothes differently from everyone else and seem to always have an interesting extra detail or two.
I had to tell her that this is probably because I just LOVE to wear things that have been handmade. especially when those things also happen to be fair trade. This outfit was another of those where I gravitated towards my go-to chambray shirt (picked up at Salvation Army), my mom's cast off white jeans, and booties, but this lovely handmade scarf from Chicago-based Heshima Kenya really made this outfit pop.
I love this scarf because I know that it was made by a female refugee from DR Congo who has found a way to earn a fair wage. I know that this scarf was made using traditional African techniques that make it totally unique and I am proud to show it off!
Please hop over to the Heshima Kenya page and take a look at all of the beautiful scarves they have in their inventory and consider purchasing one! Mother's Day is coming up! What a great gift idea...
Jeans and chambray shirt are hand-me-downs from my mum!
What a nice compliment!! I am a fan of handmade items as well. They're unique and the amount of work put into it just makes it beautiful like that scarf! Also, thank you so much for your kind words and support. It means a lot!
