Something that I've learned since making the switch to creating a more sustainable closet is that the majority of what I own ends up being shipped to the US from India, Southeast Asia, and a number of different countries in Africa. I wear a ton of pieces that are fair trade and handmade and I love them because in creating these items, women (mostly) in these countries are able to earn a fair living wage.
Something that many people don't always think about is shopping local. This could mean going to the thrift store down the road to buy something that's super local or it could apply to purchasing garments that were manufactured within the country in which you live, so for me, that means the US.
Enter Nellie Taft! We became pals on Instagram and when I realized/remembered just how important it is to shop locally, I definitely wanted to team up. Nellie Taft is all about creating affordable (and they truly are) pieces that are all made within the country. Not only is it super awesome to shop American-made, their clothes are super cute! This Grace top was perfect for a busy day of teaching: it looks great, is comfy, and I'm already planning ways to transition it to a fall outfit (hint: there may be a fur vest and booties involved)!
What's sustainable about this outfit?
: the top is locally made
: the shoes are vegan
: the necklace is handmade
: the bracelets are handmade
: the rings are handmade
