Beauty with plastic-free oceans in mind...

Monday, November 4, 2019

Take a moment and think about all of the products that are currently in your bathroom.  You've probably got shampoo, conditioner, some sort of face cleanser, body wash, a razor, toner, a few moisturizers, and probably even more than that.

Now think about how many of those products are packaged in plastic.

Picture the last time you were at the beach and saw the shoreline totally strewn with micro-plastics and other plastic trash.

Yeah... it's kind of a scary image to wrap your head around, isn't it?

This is why I'm glad to have found Black Mountain Beauty.  Owner, Marnie, is a self-proclaimed ocean lover and has set out to revitalize your beauty routine with handmade products that don't use a single little bit of plastic! Using simple ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and essential oils for scent, she also packages her goodies in tin and wax paper, which can be either reused or recycled much more easily than plastic.

I treated myself to a weekend spa afternoon with these goodies and I have to tell you that the bath fizz was fizzy and fun, and my first but much anticipated, experience with shampoo and conditioner bars was wonderful! For the last few years, I've been wanting to try bars like these, but haven't taken the plunge because I was so stuck in my routine.  These are game changers, Green Bees!  Natural ingredients, no plastic, and they are just as easy to use as bar soap (which is a switch that I made easily years ago)!

I'm a big fan of these zero waste switches, because even though I live in the mountains and don't get the chance to visit the ocean every 6 weeks or so ago like I did when I lived in Vegas, the state of the waves and the creatures that play in them is still very much at the forefront of my mind.  Marnie uses her products to support Oceana and The Ocean Cleanup, which just so happen to be a few of my favorite marine preservation non-profits, so I'd highly recommend that you check out her shop and help her keep doing what she's doing!  Plus, wouldn't eco-friendly, zero-waste bath and beauty products make epic stocking stuffers?
