Hola, tout le monde! Does it ever feel like a Monday! I've been subbing school a lot lately, which means that I've had ample opportunity to not dress like a hippie, but to suit up in a combination of my favourite vintage clothes, mixed with my mum's cast offs to create relatively fun teacher outfits. The glasses are pretty fun, too, right? Small world… the company that sent them over to me has a warehouse in my home town!
Anyway, it's all this school stuff that's really making me frustrated. That and a bit of a drunken breakdown on Thanksgiving that's really got me re-evaluating things. Here's the deal:
~ I went to college. I had to put myself through undergrad after freshman year and even though I moved to the state where I attended college before being accepted (during a crazy mixed up transfer), and worked and paid taxes in said state and was technically an in-state resident, I ended up paying out-of-state tuition (to the tune of about $16,000 a semester!).
~ After undergrad, there were no jobs, so I went back to school and got a master's, largely to please someone else and to fit into someone else's life plan. That plan never happened.
~ Then I moved to Germany where I am basically un-hireable for anything career-related, so I'm stuck subbing at school and teaching dance/gymnastics and tutoring on the side.
… now I don't know what to do when I get back to the states and am still staring down a rather unsightly student loan that because my degrees are in crazy fields and because I live where I do right now and work where I work right now, I will likely not be able to get them forgiven (as I had planned).
… oooooooh…. drifting through life…

Gracias! They were one of those things that I really wanted to try, but wasn't sure I could pull off. I'm totally glad that I tried them! I <3 these shoes!
DeleteYou look great in any style of outfit Signe. The teacher look is so fab, and those shoes are so sparkly and fresh!! Hope when you get back to the States you'll find something you'll love doing or better start your own company maybe. You are such an original that you would be successful whatever you did I think :) Have a lovely week, XOXO, Elif

DeleteThis is a tough one Signe. I didn't realise that finding work in the States was as difficult as in Europe. But you seem like such a go-getter that I'm sure you'll find something that suits you perfectly. You look so cool in this teacher outfit and I love the shoes. xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteYou have done wonders for my confidence in this comment! It's tricky to find career jobs in the states because there are just so many people who need work! It's a surplus of workers and not enough jobs… or at least not enough jobs that pay enough to support oneself!
DeleteSeriously cute specs girl! That blazer and tailored trouser combo is so nice!

Thank you! I really hate wearing suits, so the mis-match + shiny gold shoes seemed like a good balance between professional and fun.
DeleteOoh, great outfit! Being an adult is tough, isn't it?! xxx

It really is. Blah. I won't grow up!
DeleteFirst you look great! Second, I completely understand the un-hireable, I'm in the same boat. What I've finally done is make my own job.

I think that will be the plan for me when I get back to the states! People need wardrobe consultants. Am I right? Master's degree be hanged!
