Oh, la la, tout le monde... the road trip continues and I'm posting things all out of order! My brain is scrambled and I'm not sure which language I should be speaking... I keep speaking French in Italy and was speaking English in France and I'll probably end up speaking Italian when we head to Liechtenstein and Switzerland in a few days!
I've learned a number of things about the world from this trip, that I'd like to share with ya'll. Here we go:
1) The menu at McDonald's evolves quite a bit from country to country. In France, burgers with dijon mustard were hugely popular because Dijon is in France and that's where it supposedly comes from. Likewise, in Italy, you can find mozzarella sticks and paninis on the menu. The "Saveur" menu has been our savior! We eat at least 2 cheeseburgers a day... yeah... we're totally not foodies...
2) The world is full of horrendous tattoos. I find it a bit crazy that 5 years ago, when I lived in Paris and got oodles of horrendous looks on the Metro because of the small tat on my left foot and now everyone and their mother has at least one part of their body inked.
3) Italian women have a way of walking that is all their own. They wear heels and have this sort of strut that they're able to do on cobblestones that I don't think I'll ever be able to imitate, no matter what.
4) There are water fountains for dogs in Europe. In France, for a human to drink or fill up a water bottle from one of these fountains is socially frowned upon. In Italy, there is no issue with drinking/washing/cooling off with a fountain that is actually there for dogs.
5) Going along with number 4, it is ok to walk in fountains in Italy where in France, even putting your feet into a fountain is sacrilege.
6) Bath towels... in Italy, they are HUGE... in France, they are tiny TINY... and there are topless beaches...
... that's all for now. On a side note... I taught myself how to French braid... Yay, me!

Pearl! I don't know if I'm going to make it to Prague in August! My aunt is in London right now and I will have a friend in Florence in a few weeks that I know I won't get to see for a long time... I think I will be in Paris and maybe on a Mediterranean cruise in September and if I don't have a job by October, I'm going to get kicked out of Europe! I don't know how I'm going to fit everything in!
DeleteAhahah - as far as I know (having lived in Italy for 32 years), little fountains in Italy are not only for dogs but also for humans. See the little hole on top of the pipe? so you close the main water exit and you can easily dring from the water that spill upward! Usually they ahev a continuous flow so that even if a dog liks the pipe, it gets cleaned by the water that keeps flowing. On the other hand, such a waste of water!
ReplyDeleteWe've been having fun shooting water out the tops! Today, we got one to go about 20 feet up! We're such mature travelers!
DeleteWhen I was a kid I loved seeing the water shooting from the top. I guess I got used to it, but if you think of it it's pretty funny!
DeleteAww this is such a cute outfit, love your hair too! :)

Thanks, Heidi! I love zooming around Europe! It is so much easier to do/more interesting than zooming around in the states (in my humble opinion).
