#SustainableSunday with Mariposah...

Green Bees, I love a great iced tea or iced latte on a hot late summer day just as much as the next person, but for real, those videos of sea turtles having unfortunate encounters with straws in the ocean have truly altered my way of thinking where plastics are concerned.

I'm so incredibly thankful that so many companies share this mindset and have jumped on the bandwagon to create products that are sustainable, useful, and won't cause harm to living creatures.  Mariposah is one of those great new brands!  Nancy, the mastermind behind Mariposah, has always had a love of gardening, the outdoors, and finding ways to reuse things, so it's no surprise that she'd create a line of sustainable lifestyle products.

Because bamboo grows quickly without the use of herbicides or pesticides, it's a natural choice for re-usable products.  Some species of bamboo can grow up to 3 feet in just one day and can be harvested in 3-5 years instead of almost 20 years like most hardwoods.  Bamboo is also biodegradable and will break down in compostable situations.  This means that you'll never see any videos of sea turtles having unfortunate interactions with products made of it.  I'm really enjoying Mariposah's bamboo straws.  They are lightweight, come with a cotton bag, and cleaner, and I really love that all of their colours are slightly different.

Mariposah also has a line of adult bamboo toothbrushes, travel bamboo utensils, and peach wood combs, all of which are sustainably-made and can biodegrade!

Have you ever used bamboo straws?  What do you think of them?
