This kid ^ has seriously stolen our hearts, and as teachers, we are on a mission to give him all the love and care that we've got. Also, as teachers, we are kind of huge on helping to move Stellan's development along as best as we can, and we want to do it very intentionally. Instead of buying him lots of plastic toys, though there are many out there that are capable of aiding baby development, we've spent quite a bit of time researching and looking for things that are sustainably made and will encourage growth.
All of our needs for this kiddo have been met by Silly Daisy. This female-owned company was originally started when designer, Poom Lynn, ended up with a hoard of lovely fabrics. When her children started attending school full-time, she was able to focus her attention on sewing those beautiful fabrics into children's clothing and Montessori-inspired toys. Silly Daisy has even further-evolved into a shop full of handmade, fair trade, and otherwise ethically produced goods for the whole family. Their selection of handbags and candles are especially wonderful, but what I really want to talk about is this sweet fox-printed crinkle paper that Poom sent over for Stellan.
Since babies love new sounds, patterns, and using their hands, this crinkle paper is a pretty awesome multi-sensory learning toy. The crinkly paper inside of it is totally biodegradable, so it won't end up sticking around in the landfill once baby has moved on to more challenging things, like, you know... calculus and such. This crinkle paper was also made with 100% cotton in a super fun print and crazy soft winky fabric on the back. The ribbon loops are all different, so while right now, Stellan is really mostly just into the sound that the crinkle paper makes, when he gets older we can use it to learn colors and patterns.
The crinkle was hand-sewn by Poom herself, and she's also got a bib and bunny ear teether that match this set, in addition to having the same set in lots of other super fun patterns. Hop over to her shop and comment back here with your favorite fabric!
