The writing on the wall…

Ever feel like you need to get away?  I'm thanking my lucky stars that I live in a place where I can drive to the airport and a few short hours later, I can be in a new country with a new language and a new culture.  This time, I hopped over to London to visit my aunt, who was in town for a few days.  This is the third trip to London I've made in the last year (how freaking cool is that?) and, as it was super short, we used it as an opportunity to do the things that we keep saying we'll do and then run out of time for.  

First on the list: Find Banksy! 

I've always appreciated his art and wanted to see it, but by the time I remember that I want to see it, I'm on a train and headed back to the airport.  This time, I came prepared.  I did some intense googling and came up with 5 Banksy pieces that appeared to have not been sold or destroyed and one of them just so happened to be around the corner from where I stay when I'm in town.  Voila!  I was all set to call it a day and head to Masala Zone to stuff myself with Indian food, but I got a tip about another street artist (Ben Wilson… get more info HERE) who paints on discarded chewing gum… and also happened to have done some paintings a few streets over from my London home.  

Our next stop was Tottenham Court to check out this crazy gum art.  It was worth it.  This stuff is random, but uber cool!  Plus, TC is pretty cool to wander through.  I think the only thing that would have made it better is if there was a Buffalo Jeans shop.  For real… have you seen their new line?  I'm hooked on these Faith jeans! 

We rounded out the afternoon by visiting the Tower where an installation of ceramic poppies is in the works.  Each poppy (made by artist, Paul Cummins and installed by stage designer, Tom Piper) represents a soldier who fell in the Great War.  They will be installed up until 11-November, at which point they will be removed from the moat and sent out to peeps who had the foresight and 25 quid to buy one!  Grab one HERE! 

… and THEN we went to Masala Zone and stuffed ourselves with yummy Indian food!
