Ok… back to travel posts! Here are some snaps from our day in Athens.
I will start by saying that going to Athens was initially, the most important part of our cruise. I had these grandiose visions of Athens in all of its white, shining, godly, historical, glory, but what I encountered was nothing like I'd expected. Because, as I've mentioned, we did very little planning going into this adventure (as with most of our (mis)adventures)), I really, truly, thought I'd wake up, look outside and see a hill covered in white houses with blue shutters.
Not the case. Apparently, that's only in the Greek Isles. What I did see, was a hill covered in buildings covered in graffiti, which was cool, but definitely not what I'd bargained for. The ship docked outside of Athens proper, so we had to wander around and then take a train up to the Acropolis.
I kid you not, there were about 5,000 people on the Acropolis at 9 AM on a TUESDAY in the off season. It was insane. Now, when you look at these photos, you're probably going to think "What a liar. There is no one there!" but my camera has amazing zoom and I sat and waited for my shots.
When we got down from the hill, we wandered around, did some shopping (and ended up with about 20 different evil eye souvenirs… meant to bring luck…) and then my gyro dripped grease all over my beautiful leather bag, so I'm not totally convinced that the talismans work… but what can I say? C'est la vie!

DeleteFirst, love the sandals! The shots are great, okay so maybe there aren't a lot of those classic white houses but the blue sky kind of makes up for it!
