Giant steps…

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Holy cow, how did I get so behind (I've already been home from this trip for 2 weeks AND gone another trip!).  Anyway, let's wrap up the goods on Ireland (this post and one more, before we can move back to outfits and Budapest!).

I think I mentioned before that this Ireland trip was insanely well-planned.  This only happened because my aunt was supposed to be on the journey with SB and me and because I know she likes structure, I planned to give it to her.  When she didn't end up coming along, we just got lucky and had a well planned vacation.

On this particular day of our trip, we journeyed via coach tour to the Giant's Causeway.  This spot is epically cool because it was created a gazillion years ago by Finn McCool, the Irish giant.  He and the Scottish giant were having some issues and Finn built the causeway as a path to Scotland to get everything straightened out.  It didn't go quite as planned, but it turns out that Finn McCool is a pretty clever dude.  You can read the whole story here.  There are, of course, some super lame scientific explanations for how the causeway came to exist, but as I think we all know, the science of it is a bit of baloney.

… it was definitely created by a giant.

… and some leprechauns were probably there when we were there because there was a rainbow…

In addition to the causeway, we got to cross the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, which was kind of an intense experience, thanks to the incredible gusts of wind blowing through the pass!  I don't have a fear of heights, but I definitely needed to hold on with both hands all the way across the bridge and back, as I didn't want to blow overboard!  Poor SB was in charge of the camera and documenting this adventure, so he only had one hand to hold on with!

We also got to see a variety of Game of Thrones film locations (which you may remember, mean almost nothing to me, as I cannot seem to get interested in the show to save my soul… though now that I've been to two different countries and seen about 7 different film locations, I may need to start watching just so I can say, "Been there, done that!"), ate some wicked yummy Irish pub food, and even made our way up to Belfast for a quick wander around!

  5. Thanks! I really don't like adventurous trips in the winter… Ok… I like them, but I really just don't know how to dress for them, but I figure a fur vest always lends a degree of chic to things!
