The biggest dread of the fall...

Monday, October 26, 2015

Ladies and gentlemen, fall is officially here.  The trees are ablaze with brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows that look positively celebratory against the deep dark colours of the evergreens on the hills behind my house.  We've been so incredibly lucky that our landlord turned our heat on (remember last year, when it was out for 3 of the coldest weeks of winter), and we haven't really even needed it.  We've had a string of absolutely gorgeous weekends and ample free time to bask in the sun's glorious rays (can you tell that I've been doing yoga?  I suddenly got super earthy).

However... there is something that I'm dreading.

Like really, really, really dreading.

Do you want to know what it is?

Drumroll please...........

It's spiders.  Gigantic freaking spiders.  It's like the clocks go back, it starts getting dark earlier, and that little bit of chill enters the air to signal that the spiders should make their merry ways inside.

I don't know if this happens all over Germany or if it just happens in my house, but I think that the spiders in my neighborhood know that if they come into my house, I won't kill them.  I will; however, scream, run, duck, hide, and make a general fool out of myself, which, let's be honest, must be pretty enjoyable to the spiders.

I'm probably jinxing myself here, but this morning, there was a big old stink bug walking around on the wall when I made one pass through the hall.  On all subsequent passes through said hall for the next several hours, he was belly up on the floor, but must be a zombie, because before I headed to work, he was climbing back up the wall.

Fall is great.  It's my favourite season.  I love the ghost stories (Anyone got any?  Leave them for me in the comments section!).  Bring 'em on!  I love the PSL.  I love the leaves.  But I absolutely dread the spiders...
