Lately, I've seriously had sustainability on my mind, but something that I haven't written about much is the impact that sustainability has on the earth. Case and point: it's the end of October and this ^ is how I am dressing on a daily basis. Yep. I'm wearing a tank top. And yeah, I live in the desert so it's extra hot here, but the lack of changing seasons has circled my brain back around to how hot this world is.
There are billions of people living on this planet, and especially in this country, those people are all about consuming as much as they possibly can. This rampant consumption means that there is more in production and this production causes the planet to heat up.
Many people these days use things for a short period of time and then toss them into a landfill even though they are still fully-functional. Getting smart and using what you have until it is no longer usable (or by re-purposing it), or by filling your closet with wardrobe pieces that are sustainable (i.e. second-hand, eco-friendly) is a simple way to make a positive impact on the planet.
Give it a go!
What's sustainable about this outfit?
: the scarf is handmade and fair trade
: the necklace is handmade
: the earrings are handmade
Great piece on sustainability! That scarf is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I incorporate as many sustainable habits in my wardrobe as I possibly can, for the same reasons -- I want to prevent perfectly functional clothing (and not only) from ending up on the landfill.
