"Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you" - Frank Lloyd Wright
This quote seems rather appropriate as, recently, every time life has gotten to be a bit overwhelming, nature has been the one thing to help slow things to a much calmer pace. However, because life is by nature (excuse the pun) rather crazy so there are times when getting outside just isn't possible. For these times, I'm especially happy to have picked up some small reminders that the sun and the sky and the dirt are still out there when I'm ready for them: Earth Bands.
Yes, pals, these happy little bracelets are made of beads that have been modeled off of 200-year old Native American marbles. They are handmade with actual earth from over 30 places around the country. I have one from Colorado, one from Chicago (soon to be featured), and several from various spots in California. They recently released their World Bead bracelets, which are simple, lovely, and are adorned with a really cool aucient Mayan symbol that represents "Earth keeper." The beads are made of earth that has been collected from North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe, making it a truly worldly tiny bit of wonder!
The brass beads and hemp chords are all vegan and have been sourced from within the US, so while it's a worldly band, it's as local and earth-friendly as it could possibly be. I love the teal and olive green bands, but this bracelet also comes in a shade of blush pink (might be kind of perfect for a Valentine's Day gift if you want to get a jumpstart on gift shopping...). Earth Bands are also pretty awesome, because when you make a purchase from them, you can customize your band and then choose one of their favourite charities to which to make a donation (i.e. Rainforest Action Network, Protect Our Winters, or Sea Shepherd).
I ended up wearing my World Bands 3 days in a row last week and greatly appreciated the reminder that even though I was in a dark, windowless classroom, the great big world was out there waiting for me!
What are you waiting for? Which Earth Band is your favourite? Please, comment below!
