Hi, Green Bees! How is life in your corner of the world?
Things are sort of starting to gain a bit of routine since we have one of Stellan's three grandma's in town for the next week or so, so Hubby and I have been able to get out and spend a few hours together, just the two of us. While, honestly, we've just been running errands, it has been nice to get out of the house, though it's been weird not to have a tiny magic skeleton grunting and cooing in the back seat.
Something that I wanted to talk a bit about today is the postpartum body. While I was still pregnant, I read a lot about how the body would continue to feel strange after baby was born. I had friends telling me about their experiences. I received a lot of unsolicited advice about either starting to work out immediately or about not working out at all for several months. Stellan is 15 days old today and while my body has mostly gone back to its original size and my balance has largely returned, I've lost a lot of flexibility and sometimes feel a bit squishy around the middle. Where I always used to have abs, I now have extra skin and even something simple like taking a walk leaves me feeling like I've done an hour of cardio. I've found that I've had to just trust myself and do what gentle exercises I've felt up to when I've felt up to them.
Something that has helped a bit with the pieces of body image I've struggled with over the last few weeks are clothes. I have always loved clothes for the way they help me to express myself, but also because I don't necessarily like to be uncovered (unless I'm at the beach... in which case, bring on the sunshine!). I was lucky enough to have teamed up with Canadian sustainable clothing company Ecolove. This shop makes a beautiful range of multi-functional clothing using organic fabrics and plant dyes. Since I'm a huge fan of tie dye and all things eco-friendly, a partnership between us was only natural.
They sent me this gorgeous teal top that can be worn in 6 different ways. It's got ties inside the shoulders so the short sleeves can be turned into tank straps. It is also reversible, so I can even further mix up the way I wear it. Don't even get me started on the color! It's even more stunning in person!
They also sent me their 7-in-1 jacket, which I foresee will quickly become a staple in my wardrobe, especially in the cooler months (though, how adorable will it be in the spring?). I kept it pretty simple and wore it hanging open while Hubby and I ran errands, but also experimented with tying it in the front. I really love the way that it pleats and drapes around my new hot mom bod in a way that looks super natural and doesn't leave me feeling like I'm hiding my new shape. Oh, and it also has pockets!
If you're looking to end 2019 or begin 2020 by making some sustainable changes in your life, I highly recommend taking a look at Ecolove! Their commitment to utilizing natural fibers and dyes and to creating as much functionality as possible in their garments helps to create less of a tax on the environment and expands the options you've got in your wardrobe!
