This one time... in the south of France...

Monday, September 23, 2013

Ok, tout le monde... today's post has nothing to do with the outfit I'm wearing... though I AM loving this bracelet/ring combo (a bring?) or the fact that I am wearing a skull scarf, skull ring, and have a skull on my phone case (obsessed?).  I wore this outfit to a Birthday party and somehow this story came up and a special request was made that I share my embarrassment with the world, so voila... I give you: the time I got locked in the bathroom in the south of France.

Ok... so there we were... on the third or fourth or maybe even fifth day of our Great American Euro-road trip.  We'd cruised through Nancy, Lyon, Avignon, Marseille and Cannes and were staying in one of those off-the-map cities to avoid ridiculously expensive hotels.  We didn't have GPS and were trying to navigate ourselves using a map (who does that anymore, anyway?) and all the roads we needed were under construction.  Since the town was supposedly so small, we drove right into the center of it and wandered around with my iPad (no internet) and the printout of our reservation until a waitress at the only restaurant open in town pulled us aside and asked if we needed help.  Pretty soon, we had all the other waitresses and the proprietor drawing maps and giving directions in something that resembled franglais.

We finally found the hotel and after a long day in the car, I couldn't wait to get into the shower.  It was about midnight and Soldier Boy was snoozing happily while I steamed up the salle de bains in complete disregard for the sunburn I'd acquired earlier that day in Cannes.  Well... when I got out of the shower, wrapped in my towel, and ready to climb into bed, I was stuck.  Somehow, the door had gotten locked and no matter how hard I jiggled the doorknob, I couldn't budge it.  I was banging on the door and woke Soldier Boy up... and then it happened... the doorknob FELL OFF!  It was super hot and steamy and I was well on my way to having a panic attack and ended up sucking in fresh air through the hole left behind by the door knob.

After a few minutes of panic, we managed to get the door put back together and I escaped from the salle d'horreur.  Needless to say, I am now rather cautious when it comes to locking doors when showers are involved...

    1. Te he! I don't know what else to call it, but I think that : bring : describes it pretty well. Ringlet was my other option, but that makes me think of Shirley Temple hair, so I tossed that idea.
