Dumpster Design...

Monday, October 14, 2013

Ok, tout le monde... riddle me how cool this is!  I was contacted a few months ago by Dumpster Designs, a company in the UK that designs couture and ready-to-wear clothes from recycled items.  When they asked if they could send me one of their couture gowns (made from magazines), I was like "YEAH!"

I'm an eco nerd and a dressing up nerd, so this was pretty much a dream come true!  Now, I'm generally not a super editorial kind'a gal, but I think I made it work.  I was feeling super Black Swan/Paris Hilton circa "The Simple Life" and had an absolutely (freezing) ball running around the woods at sunset with Soldier Boy attempting to be uber chic.

Ok, so I can now say that I've been hiking in ballet flats, high heeled boots, a dress AND 5-inch heels and a gown made out of paper.

This dress was so cool!  Even with my degree in fashion and my experience in clothing and costume design, I can tell you that if I had made this gown myself, it would not have turned out this well.  Seriously, the whole thing is made out of paper and it is actually very comfortable.  I kind of wanted to save it for my Birthday next weekend or wear it into town with a crown and pretend to be visiting royalty.  The dress is comfortable and I think the hardest part about wearing it was that I decided to wear stilettos and walk around in the forest.

I think the coolest thing about Dumpster Design is that you can have your very own custom gown!  They will work with you to draft something totally unique and totally eco-chic!  How cool would it be to show up at prom in one of these works of art?

Pshhhh, yeah... SO COOL!

    1. The base is kind of paper maché and the other parts are glued on, but you can't tell at all by looking at it!
