I capture the castle...

Well, tout le monde... it is official.  I get to LIVE IN GERMANY!  I have my ID and my passport stamp and I am all set and ready to buy myself a new set of wheels so I can cruise around the countryside and climb castles with Soldier Boy every weekend if I so choose!

Yesterday, we hopped over to Burg Lichtenberg in Thallichtenberg (about 30 minutes from home).  This has got to be one of the coolest ruins I've visited in recent history and, as you can see by the title of this post, it kind of reminded me of my favourite book (pretty much of all time) "I Capture the Castle" by Dodie Smith.  I don't know what it is, but whenever I see a castle in some state of ruin, I have this horrible urge to climb it.  Most of the time, this is largely frowned upon, but Burg Lichtenberg is just there... totally open... no guides... you don't have to pay for it... you can walk through and enjoy looking at it, or you can put your low-heeled boots on and scale the walls.

It was incredibly windy and I thought, while doing the splits over a doorway about 8 ft. from the ground that I was going to blow over.  I think I need to make another trip over here, minus the heels and wind and perhaps with a grappling hook and a few carabiners.  No, I've never gone rock climbing, but I feel like my castle wall climbing habit hakes me qualified in some small way!

  8. This is so visually stunning. I cannot even imagine what it's like to be in the presence of such beauty. As much as I love America, no doubt about it...the landscapes and history of Europe is untouchable. Gorgeous!

    1. It's true! I'm definitely starting to miss some things about America (like how easy it is to find just about anything at a moment's notice... and Starbucks... and deep dish pizza), but you really cannot beat the history out here!

    1. I've really not spent much time in Frankfurt at all! I've been to the airport a few times and a few weeks ago, we stopped at the big mall in the city for Starbucks and Chipotle! I like exploring the country much more! Where are you from?
