That time we tried to go to Paris…

Sunday, July 6, 2014

If you read the title to this post and happen to be a bit confused by the photo above, please give me a moment to explain.  Soldier Boy and I had planned to drive from our home all the way to Normandy for our long 4th of July weekend.  At the last minute, we decided to leave a night early and drive to Paris.  As a former Parisian, I appreciate all the time I can get in the City of Light and since a friend recently finally introduced me to macarons (we can thank Instagram for my obsession with finding out how they tasted), I was excited to stock up on sweets and watch the Tour Eiffel sparkle for an evening.

I spent the entire night before our trip trying to decide what to pack.  I mean, the Normandy bit of the trip, I had all figured out, but I was really hung up on what to wear for my few precious hours in Paris.  I finally settled on something and spent about an hour and a half getting ready the following morning.  Then I went to the post office and discovered that all of the fun and exciting clothes I picked out for my trip to Italy in a few weeks had arrived (and the clothes I'd ordered for France were still not there), I knew I had to repack.  I put this outfit (^ there) together and felt ridiculously fabulous.

With the secret goal of being snapped by about a gazillion street style photogs in Paris, we set out, using Google Maps on SB's phone as a guide.  Apparently, Google Maps wanted us to waste time and gas, because instead of taking us long our planned route, it took us to Luxembourg and the middle of nowhere Belgium before disconnecting while roaming.  I've gotten pretty good at navigating on an interactive map, so I got us to Reims, by way of "Le Plus Grand Sanglier du Monde" (the largest boar in the world)  and then to the home we were staying at outside of Paris (gotta love Air BnB!) around 2030.  We still had a little over an hour of sunlight left to make it into the city for the photoshoot of my dreams.

… and then the trains weren't running… so all I have are these two snaps in my Paris outfit!

… gotta love traveling!

    1. Thank you! I do like the way it turned out, though it is a bit dark! I was actually at Abby Road last summer and tried to get a true Beatles-esque photo, but there were so many other people trying to do the same thing and tons of cars kept coming, it just wasn't meant to be!

  8. At least the photos came out great! The last one is pretty awesome :) But I feel your pain when things don't go exactly as planned when traveling. I actually forgot my camera a few times when traveling and had to depend on disposables... womp womp. But you do what you can :)

    1. Thank you! I wish it had been much brighter when we took it! I had to do a lot of editing to brighten it up! I really shouldn't complain about all of this because really, travel is travel, but I was still so bummed not to make it in to Paris for the evening when we were so darn close!

    1. I've only ever eaten two macarons in my life and they were just a few months ago. I had a friend go to Paris for the weekend and I begged her to bring a few back for me to try! Crazy, because I used to live in Paris! Oh well! Thank you for your kind words!
