Missing a beat… in which my lackluster knowledge of The Beatles is discussed…

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Dontcha just love when you wake up on time, your hair cooperates and while celebrating and dancing around the kitchen while drinking OJ in a white shirt, you manage not to spill all over yourself?

Ahhh… me too!

Speaking of dancing around the kitchen, I've been trying to familiarize myself with old music.  I have a hard time stomaching most of what is on the radio these days, so I've turned back to the late 60s/early 70s for some seriously quality tune-age.  Naturally, my first inclination was to start jamming to The Beatles.  I own "Across the Universe" on DVD and have the soundtrack, so I pretty much figured that I  had a solid background in Beatlemania.  I've also been to Abbey Road.  I've walked across it a solid 4 times!

However, I soon discovered that I really know nothing about The Beatles.  Off the top of my head, I can usually only name 3 of them (I always forget about George… which is crazy, because I've got some of his solo albums).  I only learned about a week ago that John Lennon had been assassinated (I knew that he was dead… so I get a few points for that, right?).  I was kind of under the impression that most Beatles songs were about holding hands and blackbirds mending broken wings, and becoming a walrus while potentially flying in the sky… with diamonds… but I picked up the White Album and suddenly realized that there is so much more to these crazy bugs (I can call them that, right?).

I also discovered that I actually grew up jamming to this album, as I thought my drive to work was my first time listening to it, but soon realized that I was singing along to "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" and "Piggies."

Go figure.

Need to up my game!

  4. OMG - the Beatles Revolver is my FAV. You could also feel free to hit up The Doors, The Byrds, The Animals (really just any band from 1965-1975 starting with "The" - Except the Monkeys #shudders)
Loving the braid - I go into an uncontrollable rage whenever trying to master any complicated hair technique!

    1. I remember growing up with Revolver… probably because my dad let me keep that one in my CD case. I definitely also totally love The Doors! "Riders on the Storm" is my alarm clock tune!
