Getting re-organized…

Wednesday, July 8, 2015

Because I am absolutely insane and restless and don't like to stay in one place for very long, when our Italian/Sicilian adventure ended, I gave myself one day in Germany to unpack, do laundry, and then repack to fly back to Chicago (for the first time in nearly 2 years) to surprise my mum in celebration of her retirement.  She was absolutely shocked and it was amazing.

It was kind of weird to be "home," though.  The whole time I've been in Germany, I refer to "home" as Chicago, but when I was in Chicago, I referred to "home" as Germany.  Talk about being displaced!  Anyway, I was sooooooo busy going to Target and eating at Panera, Noodles and Co., and hometown favourites Gino's and Portillo's that I honestly only took about 6 photos during my entire week back!

I've mentioned it before, but my week was also full of doctor's office visits.  Since no one in Germany seems to take the insurance that I was given through my job (… in Germany), I could only get my knee checked out in the states, and it was quite a conundrum.  Dislocated knee, torn meniscus, tons of fluid, cartilage floating around, and the ever-present arthritis have made teaching dance and gymnastics a bit of a rigamarole.  I'm debating starting a Gofundme campaign simply to help pay for the surgery since the doc actually admitted that they missed my torn meniscus on an MRI from 4 years ago (you know… when I was still  young and on my mum's amazing insurance policy) and my current living situation isn't so cost effective when it comes to doctors.  I may get to fly back to the states in a month or so ($1000 plane ticket) to give my knee a much needed makeover (an estimated $6000 after insurance).

… but for now, I'm most definitely loving palazzo pants for their ability to hide my gigantic new knee brace and the fact that my life is full of amazing jewelry designers who like to share their creativity and good vibes with me (thanks Swallow's Heart, Marisa Diane Designs, and ART Designs!).

    1. I love these pants! I mean, they're essentially PJ bottoms, but they are socially permissible, which kind of makes them the greatest invention ever.

  7. Ouch. But yay for visits home. And Panera. I haven't found one in SF yet (they must have one nearby), but it's a favorite back "home" in the desert. Best mac n cheese!

    1. It's amazing how much you miss things when you know you can't have them. I'm kind of thinking now that it was a bad idea to have gone and eaten all of these foods while I was back in the states. Now that I've returned to Germany, the cravings are in my recent memory and that makes them even worse!
