Going green because it's green...

Sunday, December 20, 2015

Clearly, I was feeling extra 1970s today, and it got me thinking... "What the heck is with this weather?"

It's the middle of December, and I'm outside in a blouse with no jacket, gloves, hat, or scarf!

Not that I'm complaining, but we just re-watched "An Inconvenient Truth" and now our household is on an extra green mission.  For real.  We've been melting down the stubs of old candles to make new candles (with Starbucks coffee stirrers as wicks... yeah, we invented our own homage Woodwicks!) so we use fewer lights when it gets dark out (super early).  I try to bring a re-usable thermos when I go on a coffee run.  We pack our lunches in re-usable containers to avoid plastic sandwich bags.  We're down to a one-car household so we're carpooling and walking when carpooling isn't an option.  We've swapped out the Roomba in favor of a broom and dustpan.  And we got a portable solar panel so we can charge all of our devices with the power of the sun!

Pretty cool, huh?

And it's really not that difficult to make greener choices.

Trust me, I love green and am not a fan of the cold, but a December with no snow is just weird!  Please consider taking some steps to cool the earth down!

  1. Good for you.....more people should follow your example!! We have switched our house to solar, with 27 solar panels on the roof, converting our abundant sunshine to electricity!
