#SustainableSunday with GlugGlug Straws...

Sunday, March 25, 2018

Hey, people of the world!  #StopSucking!  I snagged that hashtag from my pals over at The Lonely Whale ("What's up?" Adrien Grenier!) because it's just so darn catchy.  Here's the deal.  In the US alone, 500 MILLION single-use straws are used each day.  Many of these end up in the oceans, which end up breaking down into micro-particles, which the fish eat, and then people eat the fish.  Nothing about this cycle is good, so a little over a year ago, I took the pledge to stop using single-use straws.

If you want to do the same, I'd like to point you in the direction of GlugGlug Straws.  They make these super fun silicon straws that are bendy, foldable, and are even great for kiddos.   I got a 6-pack that comes with a cleaning brush and I've already gotten a ton of use out of them.  I put 2 in my car, 2 in my desk at work (where I've been able to share with a co-worker who lost her straw from Starbucks (grrr)), and I have 2 at home.  Their bright colours honestly make something as simple as drinking iced tea quite fun.  They are easy to clean, and I'm happy to use them, as they help hold me to my promise to say "No" to single-use straws!  I think that that is my favourite thing about them.  I now have a sustainable alternative that I can use that will help to reduce the quantity of plastic in landfills.

Just think about that for a moment.  If more people stop using single-use straws, the demand for them will go down.  There will be less available and less in circulation and that means that there will be less ending up in landfills and in the oceans.

GlugGlug Straws is a London-based company, but if you're in the US, you can still snag yourself a 6-pack via Amazon!  Try them out and let me know what you think!
