There is a castle on a cloud...

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

I'm going to jump off of yesterday's post about our crazy busy first day in Scotland to focus a bit on the Edinburgh Castle.  I mentioned that it was a pricey ticket (I paid 16 quid per each of us) but with all of the museums and exhibitions on the property, it is definitely worth it.  It is possible to purchase an audio tour or go on a guided tour of the sprawling property, if you like.  SB and I started out with a tour group, but couldn't help but wander away from our guide to take our time exploring.

In addition to the wonderfully restored castle, the grounds are also home to the Mons Meg (a giant cannon), the Great Hall (where you can catch afternoon concerts of historical music), the crown jewels, the "Stone of Destiny," wander around a bit in a room where Mary, Queen of Scots gave birth,  the National War Museum, and the Prisons of War.

We explored everything and I'd have to say that my favourites were the prisons and the views of the city!  The castle sits up on top of a hill and looks out over all of Edinburgh!  It's absolutely spectacular.

Also of note, my outfit!  I've been working on getting better at casual dressing.  Especially casual dressing that makes it possible for me to wear flat shoes and accommodate my wonderful knee brace (which I was actually complimented on by a fellow dancer with a bum knee in a brace of her own).  My hemp tee from ONNO Shirts has become a go-to for me and you can't beat the warmth and comfort of my Baabuk Urban Wooler sneakers

  7. Oh I feel like I could take a few days exploring that castle...looks pretty awesome. Great casual outfit too. I'm always after things that are easy to layer. There's nothing worse than being out all day sightseeing and being either too cold or too hot!

  11. The location of the castle is really stunning. I'm not sure if I explored it as a child or not, but I definitely need to check it out next time we're there. Your knee brace is well-camouflaged! xxx
