#WanderlustWednesday at the Hoover Dam...

I'm seriously debating making #WanderlustWednesday a thing... and along that vein, I have a few snaps from last weekend's trip to the Hoover Dam.

Now, I didn't really know anything about the dam before going, other than the fact that (obvi) it's a really ~~damn~~ big damn. My mum and step-dad had visited before and talked up how awesome and huge it was and that if we went, we'd definitely have to take the "Dam Tour."

Some online research lead me to discover that the "Dam Tour" is a first come, first serve tour that only takes 20 people at a time. There is no way to buy tickets online in advance. SB and I made the decision to drive out to Hoover Dam totally on a whim, but we figured that since it was pretty early on Sunday morning, we'd be able to buy tickets for an afternoon "Dam Tour."

Think again. I'm not sure if it was because it was a holiday weekend or if this is how it usually is, but we arrived around 11 AM and the tours were sold out for the whole day. We ended up paying $12/person (with the military discount... tickets are $15 at regular price) to go on the Powerplant Tour, which we were told only made two less stops than the Dam Tour.

My advice is not to waste your money. The Powerplant Tour consisted of a 10-minute video, a 10-minute wait in line, a 1-minute elevator ride, a 5 minute chat in a very loud room, another 5-minute wait for an elevator, a quick elevator ride, 5-minutes in another room, another elevator ride, and that was it. Add the $10 parking fee (and the fact that SB and I got trapped in the elevator in the parking garage) and I would really say that if you do want to visit the dam, pay for the parking, but skip the tour. If you walk across the dam, there is an audio track that plays and gives you the most important information you need to learn about the dam. If you need to do some more research, hit up Google or head over to Youtube to watch a documentary!

When you're done with the dam, head back into Boulder City and grab lunch and a few cold ones at Boulder Dam Brewing Co. Out of all the hefeweizens I've had in America, theirs is the best. I also highly recommend the megawatt sliders!
