#SustainableSunday... Jack the Fifth paper shoes...

Sunday, April 23, 2017

Ladies and gentlemen, I am everso happy to be back on the #SustainableSunday bandwagon because I can't keep quiet any longer about Jack the Fifth!  I found this Redondo Beach-based company on an Instagram binge and I am so glad that I did.  "Why?" you ask.  Because Jack the Fifth is a brand that is all about saving the world!

They make shoes, and not just any shoes.  They make shoes that are made out of 100% recycled materials.  Yes.  You read that correctly.  Every part of their shoes has been recycled and given new life.  The slip ons I'm sporting here are made of recycled paper, rubber, and twine and let me tell  you... every time I wear them to work everyone (students and fellow teachers) wants to touch them when I proudly announce that they've been made from paper!  They are comfy and I feel really good about wearing shoes that have been made of materials that have been given a new life!

They are the coolest!  Jack the Fifth also offers a rewards club that allows you to send back shoes that you've grown tired of to be recycled and then you can get a new pair at a significant discount.  Pretty fabulous, eh?

What's sustainable about this outfit?

: the shoes are made from 100% recycled materials
: the top was thrifted
: the earrings are fair trade and handmade
: all other jewelry is handmade
