Perfection? Naaaaah...

Wednesday, December 5, 2018

The other day, I caught myself telling my students that all I was looking for from them was perfection.  TBH, they were just attempting to stand quietly in a line until I welcomed them into the classroom, which should technically be a pretty simple thing to do, but it's something with which they often struggle, but when I realized what I was asking, I realized that I was a bit out of line (if you'll allow me the expression).

Perfection is something which which I often struggle.  I remember that when I was in middle school, someone that I somewhat idolized was the character Ren on the Disney show "Even Stevens."  She was a type-A, go-getter, who had amazing grades and was the president of everything.  I totally and completely aspired to be her and I came quite close, but I was miserable.  As the years have passed, I've come to accept the thought that perfection just isn't realistic because the sacrifices that are necessary to attain true perfection just aren't worth it (to me) in the end.

I think that life is really just about having love and doing one's best.
