#WanderlustWednesday... Fremont East...

Wednesday, November 9, 2016

I am finally getting a bit excited about living in Vegas.  Most of the time, I have to kind of step back and marvel at how much I feel like Alice must have the first time she went through the looking glass. Truth be told, I don't really enjoy going down to the strip (though Serendipity 3 is a fun reminder of my brief life as a Manhattanite).  But guess what?

I think I finally found a place in Vegas that I really, truly enjoy.  This magical place is a little niche that's been nicely carved out on Fremont Street.   Now, I learned this the hard way, but there is the "Fremont Street Experience," which is a jam-packed alley of tourist shops, bars, and casinos, complete with an overhead zipline in what is considered "vintage Vegas," but then there is also the Fremont East District.

This place is where it's at in my proverbial book. It's got independently-owned restaurants, lots of repurposed buildings, some cool graffiti, the "Abby Road" of Vegas, a great book store, a fabulous record store, and Container Park (a park/separate area with bars and restaurants, but everything is built into old shipping containers... SO cool!).

SB and I took some time to wander around a bit and I felt mightily at home in this super artsy area.  Plus, finding a whiskey bar in a shipping container where the bartender was cool enough to teach us how to tie bow ties and then let me name a new mix drink kind of sealed the deal.

Suffice it to say that I'm hoping to make another trip to Fremont East over the weekend.  My record collection is calling for some new (second-hand) additions!

Also... apparently I've been in a state of denial over the length of my hair... Since the unfortunate pixie cut of July 2011, I've been slowly growing out my hair.  Every time I'd return home from overseas, my friends and family would remark upon how long my hair was, but I didn't believe that it was really that long... until I saw this picture ^

Holy cow, have I managed to get my Rapunzel on!
